The Detroit Lions have named their team captains for 2010.

Captain Hammer

Captain Caveman

Captain Jonas Grumby

Captain Zapp Brannigan
OK, it wasn't those four captains...but the coin flip would be one Hell of a lot cooler if they were...
Here's the REAL captains of the 2010 Detroit Lions...
Quarterback Matthew Stafford, center Dominic Raiola, defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and kicker Jason Hanson will be the Detroit Lions' captains this season, coach Jim Schwartz announced after practice today.
They will serve as team captains for the entire 2010 season, the fifth straight year the team has done it that way. Each player will wear a block “C” on the right shoulder of their game jerseys.
Other than getting to walk to mid-field, shake hands with the opposition, and call the coin toss or pick what end zone to defend, do football captains really mean much of anything at the professional level? Especially when one of the captains have been with the team for all of a few months?
Seriously, I think Jason Hanson is a great kicker. But a captain? He's a KICKER, for chrissakes!
Being selected a captain is nice and all...but it really is much ado about nothing at the NFL level.
