Dennis Hopper, who was more than a little crazy, and one Hell of a good actor, passed away today at the relatively ripe (considering the copious amounts of mind alerting drugs and booze he ingested through the years) age of 74.

But why talk about Hopper on a Lions blog? Because of Nike, Stanley and Barry Sanders.

In the mid 90's, Hopper starred in a series of Nike ads as a crazed former NFL referee, who would rant and rave about the stars of the day...one of those being the Lions' own Barry Sanders. (Any excuse to watch Barry run is fine by me...that it's an entertaining ad is a plus!)

To quote Stanley, "Bing, bing, bing...bingbingbingbing!"

From  the photojournalist in Apocalypse Now, to Frank Booth in Blue Velvet, to Stanley in the Nike ads, to the mad bomber in Speed, they all had something in common.

You can call them dark and creepy, and I'll call them entertaining! As entertaining as a Barry Sanders run...
