If you go by the play a piddly-ass shoving match between a couple of linemen is receiving in the local media, it's obvious everyone, from beat writers to bloggers, has a hard time finding things to write about.

Here's some snippets from the in-depth, 24/7 coverage...

Nick Cotsonika at the Freep:

Guard Stephen Peterman said Yarno felt “guys were just a little relaxed mentally.” They turned up the intensity during the two-minute drill. Peterman and defensive tackle Landon Cohen tussled to the ground. Their teammates flew in, offense vs. defense. Offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus and defensive end Jason Hunter paired off, too. But there were no punches thrown.

John Niyo at the News:

"No, that was Greco-Roman wrestling -- that wasn't boxing," joked coach Jim Schwartz, who found himself in the middle of a scrum that started with guard Stephen Peterman and defensive tackle Landon Cohen going at it.

"Guys were hot, guys were competitive, and guys crossed the line a little bit too much," Schwartz said. "And I think they all know in OTAs that I can't fine anybody. So they didn't miss their opportunity to get a free one in."

Killer Kowalski at Mlive:

During a two-minute drill late in practice, Detroit Lions right guard Stephen Peterman and defensive lineman Jason Hunter started to push each other as a play was ending. As it got more heated, several other players jumped into the shoving match

THIS IS NEWS?

Uh, that's a rhetorical question, folks.

I'm as big an NFL fan as anyone, but to devote entire articles to the on-field antics of a backup defensive tackle and a guard living on borrowed NFL time is ludicrous.

Christ almighty, even PFT picked up the story...not that I'm surprised, they're nothing but hacky rumor mongerers. I expect better, and normally get it, from the beat guys in Detroit.

The attention a couple of 300 pounders rolling around on the field turf is attracting is mystifying to me. Let alone the fact guys wearing HELMETS are throwing punches at each other is damn silly. Really damn silly.

Glorified wrestling matches Fights at football practices have been happening since time immemorial. It would be news if there weren't tempers flaring in 85 degree heat.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...and again, and again. Training camp cannot start soon enough.

By the way, if I want to watch a fight, I'd rather watch a guy get beat over the head with his own arm, as seen in the 80's Grade-Z classic, "Deadly Prey."

Now that's a FIGHT, gang...
