2, 34, 66, 100, 133, 214, 255.
No, those aren't the winning Powerball numbers, Hurley's numbers on "Lost" or the snap count for Hank Stram's 65 cross power trap.
With the NFL awarding compensatory picks due to free agency losses, the draft has been updated. Those numbers listed above are overall positions where the Detroit Lions are selecting in the 2010 draft.
Lions selctions by round:
1st Round: 2
2nd Round: 34
3rd Round: 66
4th Round: 100
5th Round: 133
7th Round: 214 (from Cleveland)
7th Round: 255 (Compensatory selection, the last pick of the draft, aka Mr. Irrelevant!)
After Martin Mayhew's recent wheeling and dealing, the Lions still have 7 selections. But he also traded away number 146 in the 5th round (to Cleveland, orginally Denver's - Corey Williams), 171 in the 6th round (to Atlanta - Chris Houston) and 209 in the 7th round (to Buffalo - Ko Simpson).
As for the 7th round compensatory selection, the Lions didn't get it because of free agents they lost, they were given it to keep things equal. Only 30 true compensatory picks were awarded. The Rams and the Lions were given picks at the tail end of the draft to round things out. The Lions get Mr. Irrelevant for the 2nd time in 4 seasons. (The last Lions Mr. Irrelevant was cornerback Ramzee Robinson, picked 255th overall in 2007. Ramzee hung around with the team for a couple of seasons, and has sense bounced around the NFL)
With 4 selections in the top 100, would it be asking too much for the Lions to draft 4 starters? Actually, I should have used "expecting" instead of "asking."
The Lions should expect to find themselves nothing less than starting talent with 4 picks so high in the draft.
The draft is in your hands, Martin Mayhew. The future of the Lions depends upon it.
