Lions defensive end Jason Hunter signed his one-year restricted free agent tender, the team announced today, taking himself off the market for an offer sheet. The Lions made it pretty clear they wanted to keep Hunter, placing a second-round tender on Hunter earlier this month. He'll make $1,759,000 in base salary next season.
The Lions needed depth on defense. They got some in Hunter, a solid vet who started several games last season, and will be a part of the line rotation in 2010.
To keep it pure and simple, a team cannot have enough legit NFL linemen. Case in point, remember when Rod Marinelli kept 11 defensive linemen on the roster coming out of camp? How many of them could actually play?
The answer sure wasn't "11."
