If it's a new week, then it's time for my bad eye to be poked and prodded. Went back to the retina specialist this afternoon, and he was happy with my recovery. There's still issues with ocular hypertension, and I'm going to be dealing with blurriness for some time to come, but overall the eye is much improved. Yea for modern medicine!
On the writing front, you'll see a new addition to "For more of Big Al's wisdom" links in the right sidebar. I was asked by the powers that be at Bloguin to contribute to their new blog, "Bloguin Outsider". It's designed to be one of the network's showcase blogs, so I was quite flattered to be asked to be a contributor. I have free rein to post whatever I want, as long as it relates to sports. So if the latest piece I write doesn't fit in here or at "Bless You Boys", it will likely end up at "Bloguin Outsider". I'm looking forward to branching out into other sports subjects, and Bloguin was nice enough to give me an outlet.
As for my duties at Bless You Boys, Kurt and I decided I should have a set schedule. I'll take the reins at BYB every Wednesday and Saturday from here on out. It'll give him some time off during the long, relentless MLB season, and I'm more than happy to write about the Tigers a couple of days a week.
Unfortunately, "It's Just Sports" is going on hiatus soon, so I'll no longer be posting at Mlive, at least for the time being. Patrick, the man behind the blog, was doing it for free, and it was taking too much time and energy away from his other duties. It's too bad, as the blog was damn entertaining. Mlive is looking for someone to keep the blog alive (They want 5 posts a day, M-F). I thought about it...for about 10 seconds. I don't want to be spread too thin, and already have more than enough on my plate, both online and at home. I'm having plenty of fun right now...the operative word being "fun".
Which leads me to The Knee Jerks!
After weeks of going round and round with Comcast, I have an internet connection which actually works for more than 15 minutes at a time. I was able to be around for an entire podcast, unlike last week where I missed about 95% of the show. But enough about that, what about the podcast?
Tonight's Knee Jerks was Red Wings-centric for the first 50 minutes, as our guest was Matt Hutter, Bleacher Report's featured columnist for the Detroit Red Wings.
After we went end to end inregard to the best 8th playoff seed in the NHL, Greg Eno and I moved on to the Lions. We're doing our damnedest to not drink the Kool-Aid, but we're both impressed by the moves Martin Mayhew has made in free agency, and with his knack for the lost art of making a trade.
I still had my misgivings over the Lions handing Nate Burleson a damn silly amount of cash, but I liked the fact Mayhew, Jim Schwartz and Scott Linehan know exactly the players they wanted, and managed to sign them. It shows there just may be...A PLAN!
We then moved on to the Tigers for the final 25 minutes of the show, where we found out we're both rooting for Dontrelle Willis to make the rotation, and surprised by the effectiveness of Austin Jackson. As Eno said, "He's a Cameron Maybin...who can actually hit!"
To listen to the show, you have several options: You can click on the player in the right sidebar, subscribe via RSS, go to the show page for an on demand stream, download the MP3 version, or you can subscribe/download the show through the Zune Marketplace or iTunes, by searching for "The Knee Jerks" in the respective client!
