Is Ndamukong Suh a Detroit Lion tonight?
No.
There's no change in status regarding the negotiations between Suh's agents and the Lions. A contract has not been signed. As to what may be the reason for the lack of a contract...read on.
According to a rumor being reported by Killer Kowalski at Mlive, Suh may want want more than silly money. He might want stupid money.
The rumor that won't die is that Ndamukong Suh, the second overall pick in the draft by the Detroit Lions, wants more than the $50 million in guaranteed money that was paid to Sam Bradford, who was the first overall pick.
At this point, it's just a rumor and can't be confirmed.
If that's true, then we might be in for a longer wait than I first believed. It also shows my concern over what actions Suh's agents will take during negotiations may have been fully warranted. There's wanting what's "fair" ("fair" being relative when you're talking about tens of millions) for your client. Then there's crossing the line, when what you're asking becomes absurd...and getting more guaranteed cash than Bradford is absurd.
The Lions, through Tom Lewand, are only saying negotiations are ongoing, somewhat refuting earlier reports the two parties were "close" to an agreement.
Via Carlos Monarrez of the Freep:
“As long as we’re talking, we’re making progress,” he said. “And we continue to talk and we are very, very focused on trying to get a deal done.”
Not exactly encouraging, but as long as the Lions and Suh's agents have a dialog, a contract may come together at any time. But when I say "at any time," we could be talking about a contract agreement later tonight, or God forbid, four weeks from now.
Let's hope it's the former, than the latter. Suh's agents can't be that stupid...can they?
