While I was doing "The Knee Jerks" podcast (you are listening, aren't you?) there was some minor breaking news out of Allen Park.
It was announced the Lions new backup QB, Shaun Hill, who was acquired this past off season in a trade with the Niners for William Clay Ford's pocket change, had his contract extended.
The Detroit Lions have agreed to terms with backup quarterback Shaun Hill.
The deal keeps Hill under contract through the 2011 season and other terms were not disclosed.
Agreed to terms? Hill was already under contract! Eh, I'm splitting hairs...
Either way, this news solidifies what has been a position in flux for most of the past decade. Hell, for most of the past five decades!
The Lions FINALLY have a clearly delineated chain of command at quarterback.
Matthew Stafford is the clear number one. Shaun Hill is locked in as his backup for the next two seasons. Drew Stanton is...well, he's a total afterthought who doesn't have a future with the Lions beyond 2010...or even past this coming training camp.
Hill is a solid, experienced backup who has won in the NFL coming off the bench. Niners fans were sad to see Hill leave, which pretty much says it all.
Once again, the Lions' front office does the right thing, and what's even better, the smart thing.
After all the decades of stupidity, the franchise being run by morons, clowns and dimwits, seeing the Lions doing the smart thing sure feels weird, doesn't it?
