The Lions are starting to make ripples (definitely not waves) while looking for warm bodies to fill their 2010 roster.

Tim Twentyman at the News reports the Lions signed journeyman running back DeDe Dorsey to a 2 year deal. To be honest, my first reaction was to say, "Who?" Then I learned Dorsey's main claim to fame is being named MVP of the UFL title game. After learning that little nugget, my second reaction to the signing was to say, "Who?"

Best case scenario, Dorsey is deep down the depth chart at RB, and contributes on special teams. So why was DeDe Ramone (Yes, I know it's was spelled Dee Dee, but I couldn't resist) Dorsey signed? The Lions need training camp bodies at running back with the status of Kevin Smith and his recovery from a torn ACL still up in the air. I doubt there's much more to it.

More notably, PFT is reporting the Lions are going to be working out wide out Donte' Stallworth today. Yes, the same Donte' Stallworth who was suspended for the entire 2009 season due to his pleading guilty to felony DUI manslaughter. He was sentenced to 30 days in prison (released after 24), had his driver's license suspended for life, ordered to serve 1,000 hours of community service, along with two years of house arrest and eight years of probation.

After serving time and keeping his nose clean, Stallworth was recently reinstated by the NFL. He was immediately cut by the Browns, making him a free agent.

I'm not going to make any moral judgements here, as Stallworth has shown remorse, was sentenced in a court of law, and served his time. He is a free man, and like anyone else, should be allowed to resume his career. Though serving 30 days for killing someone while under the influence seems like an awful light sentence.

But I will judge Stallworth as a football player. He hasn't been an effective player since his walk year with the Saints in 2005. He's been on a long, slow decline, which sped up considerably in his one and only season with the Browns. Factor in he has spent the last year out of football, which leaves me wondering if Stallworth brings anything to the table, other than infamy.

I'm sure this is nothing more than the Lions doing their due dilligence, as depth at wide receiver is a pressing need. Though I honestly doubt Stallworth is the answer to any of the Lions' questions.
