Pacman Jones really, really wants to play in Detroit. He even sent a text to Jim Schwartz telling him so.
Via Nick Cotsonika at the Freep:
“I texted him (Jim Schwartz) and just told him that I’m still available, I like what they did in the draft,” Jones said today in a telephone interview. “It was just a simple text message. And he was like, ‘Thanks. Keep your head up and keep the faith.’ We left it at that.”
I don't see a downside to signing Jones. He'll sign a heavily incentive laden deal, which limits liability. The moment he has a "Pacman's makin' it rain" moment, cut him post haste. But if Jones keeps his nose clean, proves he's turned the corner and is no longer a police report waiting to happen, you have a legitimate NFL corner.
Sure, Jones' claiming he's a new man may just be lip service. But like most of us do at sometime in our live, maybe, just maybe, Pacman finally decided he needed to grow up.
Instead of Pacman Jones, the bane of head coaches everywhere, it's time he became Adam Jones, football player. What better place to prove it than in Detroit?
It's not as if either the Lions or Jones have anything to lose. They both have hit rock bottom.
