The stench of epic Matt Millen fail still reeks in Detroit. The Lions released another of  the moron's draft picks earlier today, corner Keith Smith, a 3rd round selection in '04.

As for the epic part of the Millen fail, I'll let the News' John Niyo give you the details...

The remnants of Matt Millen's draft classes continue to dwindle on the Lions' roster.

The team released cornerback Keith Smith on Wednesday, leaving linebacker Ernie Sims as the only one of the Lions' 39 draft picks from 2002 to 2006 still on the roster.

The Lions got little contribution from 5, count 'em, 5, consecutive draft classes, the majority of whom should make up the current Lions' roster...well, they would if they were any good. Is it any wonder an 0-16 season was the ultimate result of such drafting ineptitude?

In regard to Smith, his cut was a bit of a surprise, as cornerback isn't exactly a deep position, or for that matter, manned with anyone considered good, as the roster currently stands. Yet Smith did little to impress the new regime, whom continue to vigorously clean house of Millen era players. Expect the Lions to continue to troll the waiver wire up to the Saturday before the opener in New Orleans in an attempt to find serviceable pass defenders.

In fact, the Lions picked up another corner off waivers Wednesday night, the interestingly named Cletis Gordon. His name is the only interesting thing about Gordon, who spent the majority of his 3 year career playing special teams for the Chargers, as his career total of 3 passes defended attests. I doubt we'll see much of Cletis the slack jawed cornerback, but there is a plus to his signing. His pickup allows me to make Simpsons jokes...
