As expected, the NFL trade deadline was a huge nothing for the Lions. No moves were made today. Zip. Zero. Nada. As far as we know, the Lions were not involved in any trade talks, of any kind.
The only player movement involving Detroit didn't involve the deadline at all, as the Dolphins signed away the Lions' 7th round draft pick, OT Lydon Murtha, off of the practice squad. (Murtha showed some potential, but if he can't unseat any of the revolving doors ahead of him on the tackle depth chart //cough//JeffBackus//cough//, how good could he be?)
The NFL trade deadline, unlike the other pro leagues (MLB, NHL, NBA), is a joke. In the other leagues, championships can be won, or for that matter, lost, by trade deadline moves. In the NFL, nothing of importance happens.
Honestly, I don't know why the NFL even bothers with a trade "deadline." Few NFL GM's have the balls, or the cap room, to make any sort of significant move to improve their roster for a playoff run, or build for the future by trading for draft picks.
The Lions do have a few players whom could have drawn interest from other teams, specifically Dewayne White and Ernie Sims. But White has been hurt most of the year, and Sims has been out played, out hustled and out everything else you can think of, by rookie DeAndre Levy. The Lions likely would have asked for early round draft picks, and I doubt they would have been offered much of anything that high in trade.
You're only able to commit highway robbery (see last years trade of Roy Williams to Dallas for multiple draft picks) so many times before the league catches on. Martin Mayhew wasn't able to sucker another Gm this year. Meaning a roster decimated by injuries isn't going to change via trade, though the Lions will continue to comb through other team's trash via the waiver wire, hoping to find their own treasure..
So in the words of Officer Barbrady...

The NFL trade deadline? Move along, nothing to see here...
