For those of you who do not know what on earth is the UFL, it's the United Football League. It's a new "pro" (term used loosely) football league currently playing in 2 cities, San Francisco and Las Vegas and in 2 metropolitan areas, Central Florida and in the New York City metro area.
To be honest, I don't know diddly about the UFL, save for a little I read about it in Peter King's SI MMQB column, poking around the UFL website and stumbling across a game on the Versus Network last Thursday. It was football, which was good. But it wasn't good football, which is bad.
It's not like I'm starved for football right now as it is, with the NFL and NCAA in full swing. Why would I want to watch Arena League rejects playing in a Triple A league?
Will the UFL be another American Football League, or the next WFL/USFL/World League/XFL/Arena League? It'd bet on the latter, though I'm surprised the league has made it to the point of actually playing televised games. Even if being televised by niche channels like Versus and HDNet isn't exactly going to net you lots of eyeballs, but you take what you can get. Only time will tell if the UFL will survive long-term.
I'll admit my knowledge about the new league is quite limited. But it's not going to stop me from predicting who will be the first league champion. How can I pick the champion of a league I've barely watched?
I have a system.
I looked at the rosters of the four teams, and checked for players who had been connected to the Detroit Lions in some way. I did find a few stiffs scrubs players who spent time with the Motor City Kitties in training camp or in the regular season.
Former Lions in the UFL:

California Redwoods: QB Mike McMahon, WR Bobby Sippio
Florida Tuskers: QB Brooks Bollinger, RB Tatum Bell, G Fred Matua
Las Vegas Locomotives: WR David Kircus, LB Teddy Lehman
New York Sentinels: None
It's a done deal! It's the lock of the millennium!
The first champion of the UFL will be...
The New York Sentinels.
