It's day 3 of practice after the bye, and the guessing games in regard to Matthew Stafford's status for Sunday continue.
Yes, he did practice for the third straight day, and there's no hint of any complications.
Mlive's Killer Kowalski is all but convinced Stafford will take the field against the Rams:
Detroit Lions rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford practiced for the third consecutive day today, and it appears he'll be the starter when the Lions host the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
In even better news, Calvin Johnson joined the golden boy for practice. Per the Killer in the above linked article:
He ran routes and caught passes and didn't appear to be hobbled by his right knee injury.
If Johnson doesn't have any swelling or a setback of any other kind by Friday, it appears he'll also play Sunday.
As always, the mercurial Jim Schwartz treats the media as if he only needs to follow the rules of the Geneva Convention. He's rather give nothing more than name, rank and serial number to the ink stained wretches, and refuses to give out any information about the injury status for Stafford and Johnson.
As found in the Detroit News:
"We're happy with the progress they're making. But I think both of them still have a ways to go. The good thing is we've still got a ways to go until Sunday."
Translation: "We know they are ready to go, and you know they are ready to go. But we won't confirm a damn thing...and you can't make me!"
Reading between the lines, it seems there's good news all around. The Lions absolutely need these two on the field in order to beat the Rams.
My fingers are, and will remain, crossed.
