TWFE presents: Wolverlion's locks for NFL week 11
Written by Al Beaton
Thursday, 19 November 2009 17:01

Here's the scoop from Blane, aka TWFE friend and frequent commenter Wolverlion, on his weekly NFL pick 'em challenge against his radio listeners. Just as last week, the scoop isn't good.  Wolverlion's record has fallen to a mediocre 4-4-1.

Another week and another beat down. The listening public of southwest Michigan seems to have my number as each and every week I lose to the listener, thanks to last second field goals ( Jags and Jets ), teams that have no business winning ( The Skins, for gods sake they lost to the Lions!!!) and just plain bad luck. That said, I am back at it again to take on another listener this week. I considered flipping a coin but I will save that for next week if I lose again.

Remember, the Hillbilly Huddle airs every Friday and Monday between 7 and 8 AM on the blowtorch of SE MI, 97.5 Y-Country radio, WYTZ FM. You hosts are football expert Blane, aka Wolverlion, and 97.5 Y country morning man Wild Bill Lewis.

Every week, Blane asks me to post his WYTZ picks for all to see. I can't help but make my own picks, or at least make smart ass remarks about his picks and the games themselves.

Wolverlion's picks are in bold, while my snarky ass commentary is in italics.

Thursday night,  Miami @ Carolina: With the loss of Ronnie Brown, the Wildcat takes a hit. I know Ricky Williams is a good back but I think the Panthers win this game. Tune in if you can anyway as this is a good chance to watching Michigan product Chad Henne with a national audience. The Wildcat is toothless without Brown. You need a multi-talented RB to run fully run the Wildcat, and as we've seen with Pat White in Miami or the dog murderer in Philly, it's not the same offense with a QB running it. For more, SI's Andrew Perloff has an excellent piece on the failure of the Wildcat to revolutionize the NFL. Oh, yeah. The game! Jake Delahomme has stopped throwing picks for the time being, so take Wolverlion's advice.

Washington @ Dallas: Who is the worse coach? Zorn, or Phillips? Take the Cowboys in their palace. Zorn or Phillips? Is this another of those "Death not an option" questions, Wolverlion? I'm taking the racist logos, in the hope the Zorn vs Snyder brewhahah can continue unabated. I have no problem with 'Skins fans twisting in the wind. Plus, Phillips really is that clueless.

OK guys, hold on to yourself here. Cleveland @ Detroit: The Cleveland offense is historically bad, one of the worst ever. That said, I still think they score 28 on the Lions historically bad defense. The Lions still win something like 31-28. The Browns are really damn bad, but so are the Lions, and they will be playing a virtual road game at Ford Field. What few Lions fans who do show up will be ready to turn on the team once they commit their first mistake, and the Browns will have more than their fair share of fans attending. It's only a 3 hour drive to the D from the mistake on the lake. The Browns win, while the Lions take point position in the race for the number one pick. No matter who is victorious, this is going to be one shamefully ugly game.

Niners @ Green Bay: The Packers have it rolling a little so go with the Cheeseheads. The Niners wish their season ended in September when they looked like playoff contenders, considering it officially ended in November with their el foldo. Take the Pack.

Pitt @ K.C: The Steelers will roll the Chiefs in K.C.
God damn Dewayne Bowe getting popped for PEDs pissed off fantasy team owners nationwide...including this one. Let alone he was one of the few legitimate NFL talents on the Chiefs' already thin roster. F'n idiot. The Steelers are a very, very good team, they are going to smoke the Chiefs.

Atlanta @ NY Giants: Wow, both of these teams have stumbled as of late. I will take Eli and the Giants because they are at home. The are Giants at home is as good a reason as any. The Falcons are a young team still a season or so away from becoming truly good. The Giants are the most overrated team in the NFL, while Manning the younger is the most overrated QB in the NFL.

New Orleans @ Tampa Bay: The schedule makers were good to the Saints. 2 road games in a row usually spells trouble in the NFL. The Saints won in St. Louis last week and will win again in Tampa Bay this weekend. They still have a couple tough games left but 16-0 is doable.
The Bucs have a rookie QB making his 2nd NFL start, and....well, blow goats as a team. This is a virtual bye week for the Saints.

Buffalo @ Jax: Take the Jags at home. The Bills shed themselves of former Lions coach Dick Jauron earlier this week, but it will not make any difference in Florida. Now if the Bills could only shed themselves of TO as well. The Jags aren't a great team, by any means, but they sure as Hell are better than the flailing about Bills.

Indy @ Baltimore: This is a dangerous game for the Colts. I think the Ravens can beat the Colts if all goes well. With Indy coming off the big emotional win over the Patriots last week in the Belichick Boner game, it sets up as a trap. However, I still think Manning does just enough to beat the Ravens in a close, maybe sloppy game.
DANGER WILL ROBINSON PEYTON MANNING, DANGER! TRAP GAME! The Colts got a break in their lucky win over the Pats. Trap game or not, they won't need any coaching snafus this week to win.

Seattle @ Minny: Take the Vikings over the Seahawks. I am still in shock over what Favre is doing in the dome.
Seattle could have very easily lost to Detroit...if the Lions had even a modicum of NFL talent. Talent is not an issue in the Baggiedome. Vikes big.

Arizona @ St. Louis. The Cardinals have been great on the road this year and nothing makes you great on the road like a trip to St. Louis. Take the Cardinals BIG!!! Kurt Warner returns to his old stomping grounds with the Cards playing quite well. They should beat the Rams easily. Hard to believe Warner left St. Louis 6 years ago...and he's still better than anyone the Rams can play under center.

NY Jets @ New England: What is happening in the NFL coaching world? Tough guy Rex Ryan crying in front of his team like Dick Vermiel, and Coaching genius Bill Belichick making a call in a game nearly as dumb as taking the wind in overtime. ( Sorry Al, didn't mean to bring up bad memories of the past.). I think coach Bill was humiliated over his decision, and will take a pound of flesh from the Jets. Now I'm all bummed out. You just had to bring up Marty the moron. I'm going to take my laptop and go home! Before I do that, let me say I agree the Pats are going to kick ass and take names. Matt Sanchez won't know what the Hell hit him.

Cincy @ Oakland: The Raiders finally benched Jamarcus Russel. This is the type of game the Bengals should win if they are true contenders. So I will jump firmly on the Bengal bandwagon and take them to win a road game in November. What is the world coming to? Dogs and Cats living together............Bengals favored on the road.........Lions in the Super Bowl.......wait, I guess things are not as upside down as I first thought. The Bengals are no longer the Bungles. Up is down, black is white and the Raiders...are still the Raiders. The Bengals should beat the Raiders new starting QB Bruce Gradkowski about the head and shoulders. One more thing. The Raiders are starting Gradkowski? Seriously? If Russell has been benched for that stiff, his career in Oakland is over. OVAH!

S.D. @ Denver: Looks like the Broncos have finally come back to earth. The Chargers are finally starting to play solid football. L.T. is starting to run it a little. Kyle Orton is out with Simms starting in his place. If it was Phil, I might take Denver, but it is Chris, lets hope he does not leave his spleen on the field. Take the Bolts. It's official? Simms is starting? Then the Broncos are D-E-D, dead. Hell, they would be if Orton were healthy, they were winning with smoke, mirrors and lucky ass bounces. The Bolts are going to win Sunday, and the AFC West as well. No doubt about it.

Philly @ Chicago: Geez, this is like Sybil vs Sybil. You never know which team is going to show up for either franchise. Philly has more to play for so I will take the Eagles. Maybe some home cooking for Donovan McNabb will help the Eagles get a non division win. McNabb is a proven QB, Jay Cutler is still several turnovers waiting to happen...and Da Bears fans are getting fed up. I have two different FF teams, these are my respective starting QBs. McNabb  got me 24 points last week, Cutler a negative 4. I'm about fed up with Cutler as well. So take the Iggles.

Monday night, Tenn @ Houston: ESPN is getting screwed with these Monday night games.Last week we had to watch a one win Browns squad, now we get to see a 3 win Titans team.  I am tempted to take the Titans here, but Houston is a contender and I think on a Monday night ( maybe their first regular season Monday night game?) the home crowd carries them to a win. Actually, your time would be better spent listening to The Knee Jerks than watching the 4th quarter of this dog. Go with Houston, even though the Titans have Chris Johnson, who's been crazy great in 2009. The Titans have been playing better as of late, but still are not all that good. You gotta take the team in the playoff hunt over a team playing out the string.
