Dominoes shuffled: Standeford released, Cohen signed

Via News beat writer John Niyo's Twitter feed, we learned the Detroit Lions released WR John Standeford. Standeford played in all of 2 games, catching 1 pass for 5 yards. At least he didn't get a goose egg in his latest go round in Detroit.

Replacing Standeford on the 53 man roster was DT Joe Cohen, who was signed from the practice squad.

Why is the roster shuffling of career backups even remotely significant?

The waiving of a wide out means Calvin Johnson is ready to play against the Seahawks.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled Saturday night.

Cohen Brothers???
written by Remembering_Greg_Landry, November 07, 2009
What's the difference between Landon Cohen and Joe Cohen?? Are these the Cohen Brothers that make the movies? I thought it was the Coen Brothers? Are we making a movie? Something like "The Crappiest Franchise Ever"? Why do we even care? You talk about Wolverines fans having patience....Job was a Lions fan, you can look it up.

All I want is two lousy wins for the season. Two wins??? Is that too much to ask??? The Saints already have 7. The big babies. They wouldn't have missed one this year. Crap, they've just about locked up a playoff berth. After all we did for them after Katrina and they can't part with one little win.

Nice rant, RGL.

Hell, for all I know, the 2 Cohens may just be the makers of such great films as Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski and Fargo! Though I had issues with The Ladykillers and The Hudsucker Proxy...along with their run stuffing abilities.

Meaning of Life

Thanks Al, but the Lions are much more to me than they probably are to anyone else. I seem to be having my mid-life crisis and I'm waiting for them to pull me out of this. Consider this:

In October 2007, I tried to change my life by shaving my head. The Lions responded by going 1-7 to close the season.

In June 2008, I moved out on my 21 year marriage and the Lions responded with the first 0-16 season in history.

I'm currently trying to decide what to do at age 44, but I seem to be stuck in limbo, just like the Lions. Every Sunday I say I'm not going to watch, but then I tune in and and listen on the radio, or check NFL.com, and the result, with the exception of the Redskins game, is always the same. Always. The more I need a win, the less they give it to me. But I still feel pretty good about the team. I say, well, Stafford does have a good arm. I say, Calvin is a freak of nature. I say, Larry Foote is a damn patriot for leaving Pittsburgh. And so, I look at the bright side, but nothing changes.

Seriously, I'm going in for my annual checkup in a couple weeks, and I'm talking to the doc about seeing if there is something really wrong with me. Who follows a team as bad as the Lions for 40 years, and I'm not even from Michigan. Everyone I grew up with are Vikings fans. Was I adopted? How did I get this way? Why do I only feel at home in the NFL when I'm talking to other Lions fans? Is it because no one else understands? Oprah should do a show on Lions fans.

Here's to a miracle tomorrow.
