Today, the snake bitten by injury Detroit Lions made official the altogether too frequent move of a player to the IR.
For those who have lost count, this would be the 10th Lion moved to injured reserve.
I'll let John Niyo of the News have the honors:
The Lions made at least one roster move today, signing center Melvin Fowler and, as previously reported, placing cornerback Jack Williams on injured reserve. Williams suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on his first -- and only -- defensive snap in his first game Sunday after getting claimed off waviers from Denver last week.
If that isn't typical Lions' luck. Williams came in for one play, and was out for the season by the next.
The reason Fowler was signed, rather than bringing in another defensive back, is due to the injury guard Stephen Peterman suffered against the Vikings. My first guess his injury could be something serious? Though Peterman limped off after getting his leg rolled over, he left the Baggiedome field on the back of a cart.
From Jim Schwartz's comments during his Monday presser, it's not looking good for Peterman.
Via Killer Kowalski at Mlive:
"Yeah, he's got an ankle that we're looking hard at,'' said Schwartz, who wouldn't reveal the team's contingency plan if they lose Peterman.
"We have a couple of different ways that we can do it,'' Schwartz said. "We'll most likely stay within our roster; but, there's a possibility we could go outside of our roster."
Schwartz not revealing his plan? Why, I never...expected him to, considering he's more secretive regarding injuries than the Red Wings are during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
I can imagine the conversation Schwartz had with the beat guys, or more correctly, the lack thereof...
Assembled Media: "Is it an upper or lower body injury?"
Jim Schwartz: "Yes."
Media: "Will he play this Sunday?"
Schwartz: "Who?"
Media: "Peterman!"
Schwartz: "Who wants to know?"
Media: "We do!"
Schwartz: "Can't say."
Media: "Why?"
Schwartz: "Tomorrow."
Media: "No, today!"
Schwartz: "Tomorrow."
Media: "Why?"
Schwartz: "I don't know."
Media: "Third base!"
Schwartz: "Naturally."
I'd assume it'll devolve into total confusion from there...
