Detroit Lions @ Minnesota Vikings running diary - 4th quarter: I hate the Lions. Passionately...

The Vikes start the quarter with Favre wanting to throw deep...OH SHIT! Rice has a step, and makes the catch at the 5! Christ, I HATE this team.

2nd and goal, play actions, Favre rolls left...the TE, Dugan, is WIDE FUCKING OPEN. Too easy of a TD. As the Lions are down to playing guys off the street at DB, I'm not surprised.

On the PAT, the Lions have 12 men on the field.

Fuck us all.

Big Al Facepalm

Vikings lead, 24-10.

It's time.

Time for what, you ask?

Game over, man

Game over, man. Game over.

But there's still over 12 minutes left in the game, so play continues.

The Lions get one 1st down on the drive following the Vikings' TD, but have to punt. FOX breaks out the stats, Stafford is being sacked, hit or hurried on close to 70% of his throws. To drive the point home, Stafford short arms a 3rd down throw while under pressure.

Nice punt by Harris pins the Vikes inside the 15. Small victories are about all I can watch for at this point.

You gotta be kidding me! Now Kalvin Pearson goes down, he's DB number 4 out. Is there anyone left on the bench to throw to the wolves...er...Vikings?

Favre to throw...it's Harvin near the marker, circles around....HE'S HIT...but Levy doesn't wrap up, and Harvin has nothing but green carpet in front of him! He's finally run out of bounds, 40 yards downfield.

Levy went for the highlight reel knockout, and ended up getting jack shit. They're called fundamentals for a reason, rookie.

Favre hits another long pass to get the Vikes into the red zone. Whatever. They're going to score, be it a TD or FG. It's fucking moot.

Lions' D stiffens, as Buchanon stops Peterson on 3rd and long....then he limps off the field, another DB banged up. Jeebus, just get the game over before we start seeing linemen playing safety!

Longwell drills the FG, Vikings go up 3 scores, 27-10.

When will the misery end?

It's a rhetorical question. I know it'll NEVER end.

On 3rd and long, Stafford steps up in the pocket as he's under, what else, an intense pass rush...and it's a nice catch by Pettigrew to get the 1st down. Clock running, under 7 minutes left in the game. Lions should just throw the white flag, as they are getting beat to piss, physically.

Lions will go for it on 4th and 4 from their 44. We get a close up of Stafford, who looks disheveled as all get out. Considering the beating he's taken from the Vikings, I'm surprised the rookie is still standing.

Of course, he short arms the 4th down pass, turning the ball over on downs. Christ...

I'll cut him a little slack, as the kid has to be shell shocked by this point. For the next week, Stafford will run for his life whenever he sees something purple...

The Vikings call off the dogs, as Tavaris Jackson takes over for Favre. He leads to Vikes on a 3 and out.

This game has been over for quite some time, but the NFL requires you play for 60 minutes. Time to implement a mercy rule, you think?

The Lions offense is on the field, but it's all in futility. All they are doing is getting Stafford hit, play after play after play. The kid is running for his life on a bad knee. I'm not sure it's worth the extra "experience" at this point, when all Stafford is doing is getting his ass punished every time he touches the ball.

Stafford tries to hit Johnson deep over the middle, but the ball goes right through his hands. Megatron is just going through the motions. Not good.

The Lions end up turning the ball over on downs. Yea?

2 minute warning. Please speed up the clock!

There's one bright spot today. Stafford has thrown the ball 51 times, but zero picks. After the 5 pick horror, that's progress. I'm not going to pin much blame on Stafford for the loss. If anything, the rookie proved he's willing to stand up under pressure, and throw the ball while taking a great deal of punishment.

Again, it's not much. But I'll take what I can get.

Come on! The Lions are taking their time outs. Wonderful, drag out this fucking game even longer. It's already run well long, as it's 4:21 PM as I write this.

Finally! The Vikings are taking a knee. That's going to be the game. I'm calling it...

You lose!

Correct answer: N O

Lions lose to the Vikings 27-10, a game which shouldn't have been even that close.

I can't wait for next Sunday, when the Lions take on the Browns...in a battle for the first overall draft pick.

If you couldn't sense the sarcasm, you haven't been reading TWFE long enough.

Same old shit different week

First, I am a big fan of the site and I love your humor. I don't see any improvement in any area of this team. Granted this was a shitty team to begin with, but my god they make the same mistakes every game. I have been a lifetime lions fan and will always be, but this team is so tiring to watch from week to week... Take care...and I feel your pain....

You know, this shows how futile the Lions are. I think I heard the announcers say Brett Favre was 18-0 at home against the Lions all time. Is that possible? OMG or OMFG

Im beginning to feel like Stafford is more of a bust each Sunday. Granted he is young but its just so hard to watch his failures each week and unless these damn Lions get a line to protect him theres not gonna be too much of him left a few seasons from now... ugh. I don't even care about the Lions anymore man, the Wolverines were are at least a storied franchise......
i seem to type like the lions play "football"

Thanks for commiserating, Derek. I feel the same way. Same game, different decade.

Wolverlion, it's very true. Remember, the Lions haven't won in GB since Don Majkowski was the starting QB for the Pack. Add in today at the baggiedome, and Favre is still undefeated against the Lions at home.

No apology needed, B-city. The Lions drive us ALL to drink. But I'm not ready to write off Stafford yet. I'd like to see how he'd do when he's both healthy, and throwing behind a legit NFL o-line. Right now, he's got neither.
It's still half full

So, no interceptions by the rook, right? And I think we can safely blame Millen for the absolute lack of talent, right? This is the first time I've seen them play all year and they were at least trying for most of the game. I've certainly seen worse QBs in Honolulu Blue and Silver. But, Christ, Lou Creekmur and Fum McGraw could provide better pass protection and they're both moldering in the grave. If Jeff Backus was the Wolverines left tackle, I can see why Brady was a 6th round pick--it's hard to impress when you're passing from your ass. Hopefully there are some good left tackles in college this year because this has to be the year the Lions take one. I won't see them until Thanksgiving, then not at all after that. Let's hope for some improvement. But, at kickoff time my local golf course is having a shotgun start, should I go bat it around for 18 or watch the Leos? Al, if your PT is going well you should strap on the pads and go down to Lincoln Park for a tryout at Free Safety.

I didn't watch the game...I didn't have to. All I had to do was listen to Al's outbursts to know what was going on. Most of which were profanities that became more frequent and colorful as the afternoon wore on. FYI Al spent the rest of the night at his desk, moaning, in a double face plant. Heart wrenching...
