I apologize for getting these up a couple of days late, but I've been nowhere near a PC for close to 2 days. 'Tis the holiday season, and all that jazz.
A bad break last week dropped Blane, aka long-time TWFE reader Wolverlion, to 7-6-1 against the best and brightest of SW MI. He explains what's what:
All I want for Christmas is a competitive Lions team. How pathetic is that. Most fans have visions of Lombardi Trophies dancing through their heads. We Lions fans just dream about not being humiliated on a weekly basis.
Anyway, lost to the listener last week thanks to the Vikings choking in the 4th quarter of the Sunday night game. But not to worry, I am in the Christmas spirit and in the mood of giving. Speaking of giving. Here are my picks for week 16.
Before we give Wolverlion's gift of picks, here's the caveats and disclaimers!
Remember, the Hillbilly Huddle airs every Friday and Monday between 7 and 8 AM on the blowtorch of SE MI, 97.5 Y-Country radio, WYTZ FM. You hosts are football expert Blane, aka Wolverlion, and 97.5 Y country morning man Wild Bill Lewis.
Every week, Blane asks me to post his WYTZ picks for all to see. I can't help but make my own picks, or at least make smart ass remarks about his selections and the games themselves.
Wolverlion's picks are in bold, while my snarky ass commentary is in italics.
Christmas Day
Sand Diego @ Tenn-----you know a couple months back I think I said about the Chargers " They have to start playing good sometime don't they?" well prophecy fulfilled. There may be no team in the NFL playing better than the Chargers the last 10 weeks. Take the Bolts over the late charging Titans. As you can see, Wolverlion nailed this pick. I would have to, as I cannot agree more with Blane saying the Bolts have been playing the best football in the NFL for 2 1/2 months. Never thought I'd say anything near that in regard to a Norv Turner coached team.
Sunday
Buffalo @ Atlanta---I still do not like this Buffalo team, but the Falcons have been a disappointment. I will take the Falcons at home. Bills blow. Falcons still have something to play for, they cruise to victory.
K.C. @ Cincy----I think the Bengals will right the ship in this one. Cincy big. Chiefs blow. Cincy still has something to play for, they cruise to victory.
Oakland @ Cleveland----I do not ever remember so many crappy games in one season. This one adds to the long list of dogs we have had to suffer through this year. I am taking Oakland in this battle of uglies. Browns blow. Raiders blow a little less.
Seattle @ Green Bay---I expect the Seahawks to lay down in the now totally frozen tundra. Packers huge. The Seahawks are deep fried by the Cheeseheads.
Baltimore @ Pitt---The Ravens are fighting for a playoff spot, the Steelers for pride. I will take the Steelers in a physical game. Ravens still have a shot at the playoffs. Baltimore wins in a very close, tough game over the Steelers. I'm still trying to figure out how a team as good as Pittsburgh will miss the playoffs.
Houston @ Miami----The Fins will put the Texans out of their misery. The Texans can't play for shit when there are any sort of playoff expectations. After winning 2 straight, there may be a few long shot playoff expectations again in Houston....so take the Fins.
Jacksonville @ New England----Tom Brady is really good in the cold and the snow. A team from Florida will be no match for him. Take the Pats. I can't believe the Jags are still in playoff contention...but they won't be after today. Pats and Brady take them down.
Tampa @ New Orleans---The Saints get back to their winning ways in a laffer. Saints play pissed off after blowing their shot at an undefeated season. They win in a walk.
Carolina @ N.Y. Giants---I am taking the Giants at home to make a late season drive to the playoffs. Upset special, take upstart QB Matt Moore and the Panthers.
Detroit @ San Fran---I actually think this game can be close, but Michael Crabtree and the Niners win in the end. Drew Stanton throws for 336 yards, throws 4 TD passes and runs for 2 more in a HUGE win...Wait a sec. That was Eric Hipple's first NFL start. Lightning won't strike twice for the Lions, will it? Nah...
St. Louis @ Arizona---We Lions fans need the Rams to get one of these games, but this one will not be it. Cardinals big. Rams won't win on the road, Warner will pick them apart.
N.Y. Jets @ Indy---Rex Ryan is trash talking the 14-0 Colts???? Big mistake. Indy wins to move to 15-0. And they make Rex Ryan cry. But how much will Manning play? I'm guessing he doesn't play the 2nd half, which will keep the Jets close.
Denver @ Philly---I am taking the Eagles at home in this one to set up the showdown with the Cowboys in week 17. Philly has been playing great football for the past month, and they are at home. Denver doesn't have a chance.
Sunday night
Dallas @ Washington---I am taking the Cowboys on the road to set up the showdown with Philly. Dallas wins, but it's closer than expected...unless Jim Zorn pulls another "trick" play out of his oh so fired ass.
Monday night
Minny @ Chicago---The Bears mailed it in long ago. I actually think the Lions could beat the Bears in the season finale---translation---the Bears have ZERO shot against the Vikings. Vikes win easy, as "Jay Cutler's Interceptions Across America Tour" continues in Chicago.
Merry Christmas everyone. Happy Holidays too!
